Podcasting Immigrant Colorado

By Carlos Jimenez Jr.

A Semillas grant awarded by the DU Center for Immigration Policy & Research (CIPR) helped fund the development and production of Assistant Professor Carlos Jimenez’s (Media, Film and Journalism Studies) new podcast called Hear, Allá, Presente, which tells stories from the immigrant community in Colorado. Professor Jimenez and his team have begun to release episodes, which include DU Professor and digital artist Dr. Rafael Fajardo, immigrant artist Brayan Montes, leaders at Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network, and the story of Selky Azaah, a former ICE detainee and Cameroonian immigrant, who shares his immigrant journey and fight to win asylum in the U.S. Our podcast officially launched in January 2023.  This work could not have been done with the immense willingness and support of our community partners and interviewees. It is also a result of the immense talent and effort of three audio producers working on the project with Assistant Professor Carlos Jimenez (Media, Film, and Journalism Studies) who had previously taken his Audio Documentary course. These producers include Lucy Richardson (BA in Psychology and Journalism, Spring 2023), Lisette Zamora-Galarza (MS in Marketing, June 2022), and Grayton Newman (BA in Emergent Digital Practices, June 2019).
