'Here to Stay' Report
Building on a long-standing collaboration with Centro de los Trabajadores, DU's Center for Immigration Policy and Research (CIPR) partnered with its Bienvenidos a Denver Program (Welcome to Denver), managed by Deysi Bueno de Luna, in 2023-2024 to support newcomers.
The CIPR team helped design Centro's new arrivals intake form, accompanied participants during the process, and then analyzed data from the program's first 100 intakes. This effort was led by Dr. Galemba (CIPR Co-director and affiliate) alongside Dr. Bennouna (CIPR Research Fellow), with the research assistance of Alejandro Chavez (Korbel grad student & Sié Fellow). Additional assistance was provided by MA students enrolled in Dr. Galemba's Winter 2024 Research Methods course — Cameron Beach, Shifa Chowdhury, Jake Levy, Leslie Macias, and Gabriela Molina Yépez. These students helped accompany some of the intakes and interviewed various Denver area service providers and advocates working with newcomers.
The project was supported by DU's Center for Community Engagement to Advance Scholarship and Learning (CCESL) and the Michael and Alice Kuhn Foundation.
